JAMMU, Aug 31: MLA Jammu East, Rajesh Gupta today inaugurated synthetic turf in the basketball arena of the MA stadium Jammu and also declared open the maiden inter school provincial basketball championship organized by J&K basketball association.
The funds for the second synthetic surface at MA stadium basketball arena were provided by the MLA from his CDF, the demand for which was projected by the J&K basketball association earlier this year.

Speaking on the occasion, the MLA reiterated his commitment to promote sports and sportspersons, who were the ambassadors of national integrity. It is pertinent to mention that he has also allocated funds for the laying of similar synthetic turf at the basketball court of the mini stadium parade, the foundation of which will be laid on Friday.
Meanwhile, the inter school basketball championship also got underway today at MA Stadium. 25 teams in boys and girls section will take part in the 5 day event.
On the first day, eight matches were played in which DPS beat JKPS 37-23, MHAC Nagbani drubbed JP World 49-28, Air Force School outplayed KCIS 40-34, MIER defeated ROJ Blue 16-10 in boys section, while in girls section, Rest of Jammu Green outclassed Jodhamal Public School 27-14, RoJ Green APS Ratnuchak 26-08, Carmel Convent trounced Heritage 19-10 and JKPS beat MHAC Nagbani 21-06.
The matches were officiated by Harpreet Singh, Manoj Kumar, Sumit Kumar, Vinod Kumar, Rajesh Bandral, Vaneet Pangotra, Amanjot Singh, Jaskirat Singh, Rishab Sethi, Abhiskek and Kannav Gupta.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Shiv Kumar Sharma, Jt. Secretary J&KSSC, Krupali Singh, Arjuna Awardee, Dr. Vikram Handa, Secretary General JKBA, Ashok Singh Treasure JKBA, Senior SAI coaches Satpal Sharma, Dev Raj, Amarjit Singh, Prem Singh, Sudesh Kumar, Sushma Jamwal and Aman Sharma.
