*Christ School Poonch secures 1st place

JAMMU, Nov 14: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE), in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir AIDS Control Society (JKACS), organized the UT-Level Red Ribbon Quiz Competition at the Seminar Hall, JKBOSE Rehari Colony. The event aimed to raise awareness and foster empathy for individuals afflicted with HIV/AIDS, dispelling stigma and promoting a more inclusive society.
The competition, which commenced on October 5, began with school-level rounds involving over 50 schools from each district. The top 10 schools from each district participated in district-level contests, and one team per district advanced to divisional-level competitions. These culminated in the UT-level finale, bringing together the top three teams from each division.
Christ School Poonch secured first place in the UT-level competition, winning a cash prize of Rs 10,000. BHSS Jawaharnagar Srinagar finished second with a cash prize of Rs 8,000, while Alpha Institute of Research and Training, Doda took third place, receiving Rs 6,000. HSS Shanipura Budgam earned a consolation prize of Rs 4,000.
Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas, Chairman of JKBOSE, emphasized the importance of compassion for people living with HIV/AIDS. He urged students to show empathy, not just sympathy, to these individuals, recognizing their equal worth in society. Dr. Monica Wali, Medical Officer at JKACS, highlighted how knowledge is key to eradicating stigma, and Dr. Sudhir Singh, Director of Academics, reaffirmed JKBOSE’s commitment to creating a responsible and aware generation through such initiatives.
The event was further dignified by the presence of several esteemed guests, including Madan Lal, Deputy Director Finance, JKACS, Risheesh Khajuria, Assistant Director (IEC), Rajesh Sharma, Assistant Director (Youth Affairs), JKACS, JKBOSE Academic Officers Ashutosh Parashar and Syed Kashif Hashmi. Dr. Yasir Hamid Sirwal, Deputy Director Academics-JD and Sugandh, Academic Officer were quiz masters during the programme.
Earlier the programme started with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp followed by welcome address by Dr. Yasir H. Sirwal, Deputy Director Academics-JD. He highlighted that the IEC Campaign of JKACS has had good impact on the students which is reflected in their enthusiasm.
