JAMMU, Oct 5: The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) issued a statement regarding Umran Malik amid growing media inquiries about his potential return to the Indian cricket team. Brigadier Anil Gupta, a member of JKCA’s administration, urged fans and media agencies to refrain from excessive speculation that could negatively impact Malik’s morale.
In the statement, Brig Gupta explained that Malik was initially selected for the prestigious Duleep Trophy this season. However, he fell ill with dengue, which forced him out of the tournament. Upon recovering, he faced additional setbacks, including a toe injury, followed by a hamstring issue. After dealing with these injuries, Malik experienced discomfort in his left hip during bowling, leading to consultations with various specialists.
Scans revealed a stress fracture in his left hip, which is an unusual injury for a player of his calibre. Currently, Malik is in an off-loading phase for the next 4-6 weeks, during which he will undergo further assessments. Brig Gupta encouraged the public to pray for Malik’s speedy recovery, emphasizing his immense talent and potential return to the sport.
“He is just going through a bad phase which is a common occurrence in every player’s career. We hope that after he is fully recovered, he will return to the field with fresh energy and Josh” stated Mithun Manhas, Member Cricket Operations and Development JKCA.
