JAMMU, Dec 26: The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) celebrated the exceptional performance of the Senior Women’s Cricket Team during the prestigious One-Day Trophy. The team reached the quarter-finals for the first time, a remarkable achievement in the history of women’s cricket in the region.
The felicitation ceremony was held at the JKCA Headquarters in Jammu, where Brigadier Anil Gupta, Member Administration, JKCA, and Advocate Sunil Sethi, Member Legal Affairs, honoured the team members with certificates in recognition of their outstanding performances.
Both Brigadier Gupta and Advocate Sethi praised the team’s accomplishments, emphasizing that Jammu and Kashmir Women’s Cricket team had historically been underestimated. “Now, no team will take Jammu and Kashmir lightly,” they said. They also acknowledged the pivotal role played by Member Cricket Operations and Development, Mithun Manhas and Head Coach Latika Kumari Sangwan in guiding the team to success.
Captain Jasia Akhter expressed gratitude for the trust shown by the administration and the team’s performance, promising to maintain the momentum in future tournaments. Head Coach Latika Sangwan, though proud of reaching the quarter-finals, believed the team could have achieved even more, noting the full support of the administration throughout the tournament.
The players who were felicitated included Jasia Akhter, Shivanti Gupta, Chitra Singh Jamwal, Sarla Devi, Bismah Hassan, Sandhya Sayal, Rubiya Syed, Lalita Rai, Rudrakshi Chib, Shambhavi Rajput, Ananaya Sharma, Maria Noorain, Jameela, Arveen Riyaz and Bawandeep Kaur.
The Support Staff included Latika Kumari, Head Coach; Sayima Rashid, Assistant Coach; Ravi Dogra, Manager; Parveen Aziz, Co-Manager; Rohit Rana, Trainer; Lovely Bansal, Physiotherapist and Mujtaba Wani, Video Analyst. Meanwhile, Jasia Akter was honoured for standing at number-3 spot among top run-getters; Rubiya Syed stood at number-2 spot among maximum six hitters in the tournament; Sarla Devi for becoming the first women cricketer to take 100 wickets and Chitra Singh Jamwal for scoring 1,000 runs in 35 innings.
