JAMMU, May 27: Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) Reds thrashed Star Cricket Club by a huge margin of 126 runs in the inaugural match of the Under-14 boys Knock-Out Cricket Tournament, which got underway at Science College Hostel ground, here today.
Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association, Mohd Aslam Goni, inaugurated the tournament in a well attended function.
Speaking on the occasion, Goni appreciated the efforts of JKCA Jammu wing for organizing the tournament despite financial crunch and reiterated the resolve of JKCA in providing quality cricket and healthy competition. He said the objective of the tournament was to catch them young and hone their skill at a tender age to explore the talent at grass-root level.
Hardev Singh, Joint Secretary JKCA, Jammu wing, gave brief report of the tournament while speaking on the occasion.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Mithun Manhas, Ashok Singh, Shahid Parvez, Ashwani Gupta, Rohit Malhotra, Vijay Sharma, Dr Vinod Bakshi, Dinesh Jasrotia, Vinod Sharma, Pardeep Khajuria, Munish Gupta, Ashok Dutta, Randhir Singh Jamwal, KB Kaw, Ashok Gupta, Harsh Nayyar, Ajit Singh Silwal, Saleem-ur-Rehman, Jagtar Singh and Suresh Singh.
Earlier, electing to bat first after winning the toss, JKCA Reds scored a decent total of 186 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the stipulated 30 overs. Sahil Mahotra was the top scorer with 37 runs including 3 boundaries, while Vansh Sharma contributed 27 runs with the help of 3 fours. Tushar Anthral smashed power-packed 18-ball 26 runs with the help of 5 boundaries, while Vivrant Sharma and Sahil Lotra contributed 17 and 14 runs to the total respectively. Rakshit Didwal and Anshuman Singh chipped in 12 runs each. For Star Club, Arun and Rohit claimed 2 wickets each, while Ankush took one wicket.
Star Cricket Club, in reply bundled out for a meagre total of 60 runs, thus lost the match by 126 runs. Hardeep and Gagandeep were the only two batsmen to cross the double figure mark, scoring 17 and 14 runs respectively. Aryan contributed 7 runs to the paltry total. Pavit Singh Ishar was pick of the bowlers for JKCA Reds, who claimed 2 wickets by conceding just 2 runs in his 3 overs, while Dheeraj and Sampark Gupta also bagged 2 wickets each. Abdul Samad and Tushar also picked one wicket apiece.
The match was officiated by Sandeep Singh and Paras Sharma as umpires, while Ashwani Kumar acted as a scorer.
Eight teams drawn from different institutions are participating in this tournament, which is being played on a knock-out basis.
