JAMMU, July 8: The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association’s (JKCA) Sub Committee has announced that it will host a large number of national matches this season, including three Ranji Trophy matches in Srinagar and Jammu after a six-year break.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has granted hosting rights to the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA). Apart from three Ranji Trophy matches, we are aiming to host a good number of matches in U-23 and U-19 Men’s category,” said Mithun Manhas, Member Cricket Operations and Development JKCA.
Manhas said that hosting of three Ranji Trophy and other age group matches smacks a great feeling, adding that JKCA is committed to take every step with regard to hold these matches in a most befitting manner.
According to the match schedule issued by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), J&K’s Ranji team will play against Maharashtra and Services at SK Cricket Stadium, Srinagar.
While the matches in Srinagar are scheduled for October, the local cricketers in the Valley stated that it marked a significant moment for local cricket enthusiasts who have been waiting in the wings for the return of BCCI’s domestic cricket to the region.
The cricket enthusiasts said that the return of the Ranji Trophy matches is expected to boost the morale of local players and offer them a platform to showcase their talents on a bigger stage.
“JKCA has already organized a big number of matches in Jammu and Srinagar from the last two months to select and prepare their teams for the BCCI’s upcoming domestic season. The hosting of national matches will provide ample opportunity to J&K cricketers to hone and showcase their skill, besides getting home advantage,” said one of the premier coaches of JKCA while feeling satisfaction over BCCI’s decision of granting JKCA hosting rights.
