JAMMU, Feb 7: JKCA Whites registered a narrow win by 3 runs over JKCA Reds in the ongoing selection trial matches for Vijay Hazare One-Day Tournament, being organized by Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) at Science College Hostel Ground, here.
Earlier, batting first, JKCA Whites scored 202 runs in 41.2 overs. Sajad Sofi was the top scorer with 37 runs, which he scored in as many balls with the help of 3 boundaries, while Paras Sharma contributed superb 31 runs off 35 balls, studded with 4 boundaries. Parvez Rasool smashed quick-fire 26 off just 20 balls which included 5 hits to the fence. Abid Nabi (18) and Sahil Sharma (14) were the other contributors. For JKCA Reds, Zahoor Sofi was pick of the bowlers, who bagged 4 wickets by conceding 16 runs in his 7 overs, while Arshid Sheikh claimed 3/37 in his quota of 7 overs. Left-arm spinner Waseem Raza and speedsters Samiullah Beigh and Umar Nazir claimed 2 wickets apiece.
In reply, JKCA Reds managed 199 runs in 42 overs, losing 8 wickets in the process, thus lost the match by a narrow margin of 3 runs. Bandeep Singh played a brilliant innings of 66 runs, studed with 6 fours and 2 sixes, while skipper Samiullah Beigh contributed unbeaten 38 runs to the total. Vimarsh Kaw also scored 22 runs. For Whites, left-arm spinner Raman Dutta captured 3 wickets by giving away 33 runs in his 8 overs, while skipper Abid Nabi and Syed Sagar bagged 2 wickets each.
It is pertinent to mention here that the selectors have made a list of 58 players from across the State and divided them into the four teams of JKCA Reds, Whites, Blues and Greens.
JKCA Blues will take on Greens in the next match tomorrow.
