SRINAGAR, Aug 20: A seminar on the subject “attack on social security system and the policy of privatisation in Government and Semi-Government departments” was held here, today.
A large number of Trade Union leaders and activists from State and Central Governments and Public Sector undertakings attended the Seminar which was organised by Jammu and Kashmir Co-ordination Committee of Trade Unions (JKCCTU).
The Seminar was inaugurated by Mohammad Maqbool, National secretary AISGEF and State President JKCCTU. He while addressing the gathering said that the present system is facing the severe economic crises today and the ruling classes at the Central and State are shifting the burden of the crises at the dictates of IMF and World Bank on the working people especially on the service sector employees through austerity measures like wage cuts ,outsourcing the permanent nature of jobs by introducing of contract, casual and scheme workers ,amendments in labour laws, withdrawing social security system by introducing new pension schemes to ensure the loot of the corporate sector thus putting the huge burdens on the employees and workers.
He said the National Pension Act recently passed by the Parliament and massive outsourcing, contractorisation and casualization of jobs of Government departments has created the alarming situation while the hard earned rights of employees like pension and job security is in danger now. He said that these policies are being implemented only to allow the loot of corporates and big business houses which cannot be accepted and tolerated. He urged the Trade Union leaders to rise to the occasion and face the present challenges unitedly to save their rights like pension and job security earned after big sacrifices.
The Seminar was addressed by the veteran Trade Union leaders of the States especially by Khan Mushtak (EJAC), Nisar Ahmad Mir (BSNL), Ali Mohammed Tantray (NZIEU), Shakeel Ahmad (ITIDHU), Haji Gh Mohamad (JKREU), Farid Ahmad Mir (JKCNGEEU), Md Younus (JKFEWA). Ab Rashid Najar (JKCNGEEU), Trarik Rasool (JVCWU), Jabina Akhtar (WWCC) and others.
These leaders were of the unanimous opinion that the present policies are very harmful for the employees and workers and narrated their experiences in their respective departments.
