JKDF calls for Jammu bandh tomorrow

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Feb 17: JKDF has given the call of Jammu bandh on February 19 in protest against the refusal of the Government to grant the permission to party to hold Duggar Chetna rally on eve of Duggar Shaurya Diwas falling on the same day.
The party made an appeal to people, traders, transporters, Bar Association of Jammu and political groups to observe a complete bandh on the day in protest against the denial of democratic rights to the people of Jammu. The appeal was made by JKDF president, Anil Gupta at a press conference here this afternoon.
Expressing anguish and concern over the curbing of democratic rights of the party to hold the political rally, Mr Gupta termed the action as undemocratic. Condemning the Government action of not allowing the February 19 rally on eve of “Duggar Shaurya Diwas” (Foundation Day of JKDF), he termed it as a deliberate  move to suppress the freedom of expression  and denial of political space to other groups by the coalition.
He said JKDF has applied for permission to  hold the  Motor Cycle/Car Rally named as “Duggar Chetna rally” from Deputy Commissioner Jammu’s office  on February 17 two months well in advance,  but the permission was delayed deliberately and denied at the eleventh hour when all preparation for the rally has been completed. Police and Traffic Departments have already granted the permission for holding of rally on February 19 but   Deputy Commissioner Jammu has refused to allow the same on the reasons best known to him.
He said JKDF will not be frightened by such tactics and firmly resolves to fight for the injustice meted out to the people especially Jammuites, whose feelings have been deeply hurt by this biased action of Government.
