JKOA for reconstitution of Sports Council, demand probe

JAMMU, July 19: Jammu and Kashmir Olympic Association (JKOA) demanded immediately probe on the expenditure of enormous funds provided to the State of Jammu and Kashmir by the Govt of India during the past three years for the promotion and development of sports in the State under ‘Khelo India’ and other schemes.
While addressing media persons General Secretary of the Association, Prof Ashutosh Sharma and other office bearers said that the funds provided by the Centre do not match the expenditure made in raising sports infrastructure in the state. They demanded immediate creation of infrastructure for various sports activities including Tennis, Football, Shooting, Boxing, Wushu, Athletics etc so that the state produces sportspersons of International repute.
“In order to give fillip to sports in the state, the Association demanded reconstitution of the headless Sports Council by including sportspersons and sports administrators as its members and good sportsperson and administrator as the Secretary.
The members of the Association said that there is discrimination against Jammu based Sports Association which are being deprived of financial assistance/grand-in-Aid for the conduct of sports activities in  their respective areas.
The Association made an appeal to the legislators of the state for providing substantial amounts out of their CDF for raising sports infrastructure in the state to channelize the energy of youth.
