JKP emerges overall champion in 20th J&K UT Athletic C’ship

JAMMU, Apr 1: Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) has emerged as overall champion in the 20th J&K UT Athletics Championship.
The last day of the Championship witnessed very tough competition among the Athletes and a new UT record was created in 100 m sprint with a timing of 10.73 seconds and 200 m with a timing of 22.33 seconds by Abhijeet Singh in U-20 boys.
This year saw an overall improved performance in all the events, resulting more athlete’s qualifying for the nationals. The occasion was also graced by president J&K Olympic Association Dr (Prof) Aashutosh Sharma. The Association also honored Ritik Sharma for winning Gold medal in 56th National Cross Country Championships held at Kohima (Nagaland).
The medals and certificates were awarded to the winners by Suneel Mahajan (president, J&K Amateur Athletics Association), Sharat Chander Singh (general secretary, J&K Amateur Athletics Association), Ravinder Singh (senior vice president), Sarwant Singh Gill (vice president), Vinod Bhatia (Associate Secretary), Varinder Kour (joint secretary) and all the district secretaries of all district associations.
The events were held under the technical supervision of Nirmal Singh and Gurcharan Singh. The technical officials included Sarabjeet Singh, Sanjeev Kumar, Harvinder Singh, Pawandeep Kour, Mandeep Kour, Parveen Kour, Sweety Jyotshi, Reyaz Ahmed, Aman Sambyal, Rakesh Singh Charak, Parveen Singh and Kiran Kumari.
In Open Men’s 5000 m, Ravi Dass, Abhishek and Munesh Choudhary won 1st 2nd and 3rd position, respectively, while in U-20 Boys 5000 m, Aran Chandel (1st), Karan Chandel (2nd) and Roshan Khanna (3rd) emerged winners. In U-18 Boys 3000 m, Ritik Sharma (1st), Bhubnesh Sharma (2nd) and Lovejeet Singh (3rd) secured positions whereas Akhil Singh (1st), Sahil Kumar (2nd) and Ishtiaq Ahmed (3rd) emerged winners in U-18 Boys 100 m. Abhijeet Singh, Sandeep Kumar and Nikhil Kumar won 1ts, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively in U-20 Boys 200 m while Tinku Kumar secured 1st position, Kartik Sharma 2nd and Ishtiaq Hussain 3rd in U-18 Boys 200 m.
Shamshad Bano bagged 1st position, Mamta Sharma 2nd and Anjali 3rd position in Open Women’s 3000 m, Danish Yousaf (JKP) 1st, Vasu Sapolia 2nd and Ankit Sharma (JKP) 3rd in Open Men’s 200 m, Mamta Sharma 1st, Priya Sharma 2nd and Shivalli Choudhary 3rd in Open Women’s Final 800 m, Kanchan Devi 1st, Palvi Thakur 2nd and Kajal Devi 3rd in U-20 Girls 800 m, Sara bagged 1st, Mehak Mushtaq 2nd and Ashika Mehra 3rd position in U-18 Girls 800 m. Shakshi Thakur bagged 1st, Pavitra Balaji 2nd and Anjali Rajput won 3rd position in U-16 Girls 800 m.
In Open Men’s 800 m, Ashwani Kant stood 1st, Barkat Ali (JKP) 2nd and Mukesh Kumar (JKP) 3rd while in U-20 Boys 800 m, Ankush Magotra bagged 1st position, Tarun Nagrotra 2nd and Sat Paul Sharma 3rd. In U-18 Boys 800 m, Rahul Sharma won 1st position, Ankush Kumar 2nd and Dhreej Billowria 3rd whereas in U-16 Boys 800 m, Ajay Kumar secured 1st position, Zaibdin Mushtaq 2nd and Sameer Choudhary 3rd. In Open Men’s Discuss Throw, Manpreet (JKP) won 1st position, Jasif Ahmed (JP 2nd and Mohd Azam bagged 3rd position.
