JAMMU, Nov 3: Scripting an exciting tie-breaker win by six goals to five (6-5) over almost equally strong team of BSF Jammu, the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) team lifted the title trophy of Shaheed Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Hockey Tournament, organized by Kashmir Sikh Sangat (KSS), under the aegis of Hockey J&K at KK Hakhu Astroturf Hockey Stadium, here today.
Provincial president National Conference, Devinder Singh Rana was the chief guest on the concluding function, while Sardar Baldev Singh, CEO and MD Peaks Auto was the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rana lavished praise on the organizers including Kashmir Sikh Sangat, Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Hockey Committee and Hockey J&K for holding such a mega event, which provided big platform for hockey players to make it to the higher levels.
While quoting an example of Parvez Rasool for representing India in cricket, Mr Rana wished to see many hockey players from Jammu and Kashmir to represent the country and set examples like hockey wizard Dhyan Chand and other such greats at the bigger circuit.
The NC provincial president assured the organizers that the tournament will be telecast live from the next season.
Dr Dhanwant Singh, chairman Sikh Sangat presented vote of thanks, while Karamjeet Singh, general secretary KSS conducted the proceedings of the programme.
Earlier, in the summit clash, Sikinder Pal Singh of JKP netted the first goal in 15th minute of the match to give his side an early lead. However, Vicky Singh of BSF Jammu scored an equalizer in the 25th minute. Jaspreet Singh again gave his team a much needed lead in 59th minute by scoring a splendid goal but M Logan of BSF scored an equalizer in dying moments during 60th minute, which left the match to be decided through tie-breaker.
JKP managed to score 4 goals in tie-breaker through Sikinder Pal Singh, Jaspreet Singh, Satwant Singh and Manjeet Singh, while BSF Jammu scored 3 goals through Rajesh, Punchu and Anish. Finally, JKP won the match by six goals to five (6-5).
The match was officiated by Karanjeet Singh, Jagjeet Singh, Joginder Singh, JS Reen and MS Senapati, while the tournament was held under the overall supervision of Dr Dhanwant Singh (Chairman), Sardar SS Bali (Coodinator), Sardar TP Singh (Organising Secretary), Karamjeet Singh, General Secretary KSS, Rajinder Singh, Treasurer, Hockey India and Gurdeep Singh Bakshi, General Secretary Hockey J&K.
