JKP officer selected to attend IOC Observers Programme in Paris

JAMMU, July 24: In a significant milestone for Jammu and Kashmir, Dushyant Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and former International Wrestler, has been chosen by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to participate in the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Observers Programme to be held in Paris, France.
As Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a recent statement announced aspirations to host Olympics 2036 on Indian soil, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) headed by Dr P.T. Usha, President, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is gearing up for a significant opportunity to enhance their understanding and preparations for hosting future Olympic Games in India.
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has been invited to participate in the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Observers Programme scheduled to take place during the Olympic Games from July 29 to August 10, 2024, at Paris, France. The IOC Observers Programme is a unique opportunity that will allow the delegation to gain first-hand experience and knowledge about the intricacies involved in the planning, organization and execution of the Olympic Games.
The Indian Olympic Association has chosen Dushyant Sharma (SSP), who is currently posted at PTTI Vijaypur, to travel to Paris with their delegation of three members for this admirable purpose. The IOA noted that Sharma’s presence will help achieve strategic goals, especially in the areas of security and operational management, and that he will also make it easier to create a strong framework for organizing major international events that adheres to international standards.
As per statement, R.R Swain, Director General of Police (DGP) J&K stated in his message that it is a great honour for J&K Police as well as for UT of J&K that an one officer from J&K Police has been selected as a member of Indian Olympic Association delegation for Observers Programme.
Dushyant Sharma-SSP being a former International Wrestler had represented India as a player in many International/ National Wrestling events held at different parts of India and abroad.
In 1993, he won the Bronze Medal in the Takti International World Wrestling Championship held at Afsaan, Iran. Later he has accompanied Indian wrestling teams as team leader in various Wrestling Championship viz., Common-Wealth Games held at Melbourne, Australia in 2011 and in Vencanuer Guru Hargobind Wrestling Championship held at Canada in 2011, London Olympic Games in 2012, Dava Scheltz International Wrestling Championship held at Colorado Spring USA in the year 2014. He also accompanied as team leader with Indian Senior Women Wrestling Team for 5th Annual Benefit &International Wrestling Competition held at Los Angeles California USA in the year 2019 and was also deputed as Chef-D-Mission of Indian contingent in the 13th South Asian Games held at Kathmandu Nepal in 2019.
