JKP organizing ‘J&K State Marathon’ on Apr 19: IGP Armed

*Cash prizes worth Rs 3 lakh to be awarded

JAMMU, Apr 13: Jammu and Kashmir Police is organizing ‘Run for Fun’- J&K State Marathon on April 19.
The Marathon is being organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police under Civic Action Programme (CAP) and large number of people of different age groups are expected to participate in the event.
This was disclosed by IGP, Armed, Jammu, Shafkat Ali Watali during a meeting here at Zonal Armed Police Headquarters.
Mr Watali, who is also the organizing secretary of ‘J&K State Marathon-2015, said that Rs 3 lakh is being distributed as cash prize among 45 outstanding athletes participating in different competitions during the event.
“To ensure participation of maximum people, the event has been divided into six different categories based on distance to be covered by the athletes which include Full Marathon of 42 km for men, Half Marathon of 21 km for both men and women (to be flagged off separately), 8 km run for under-14 boys, 6 km run for under-14 girls, Run for Fun of 4 km for both men and women irrespective of age and 42 km full marathon and  21 km half marathon for Police, Paramilitary and Army personnel,” he added.
The IGP said that the marathon is open to all and the aspirants can register themselves with sports officer of J&K Police at Armed Police Headquarters, Gulshan Ground Jammu, between 10 am to 6 pm on any working day.
“On-spot registration at the venue would also be available on the day of marathon,” he added.
IGP said that different committees have been formed for smooth and successful conduct of the event.
Prominent among others who attended the meeting included Staff Officer to ADGP Armed, Javed Iqbal, Sports Officer, J&K Police, Kuldeep Handoo and Sports Coordinator, Imran Iqbal.
