JKP playing vital role in promoting sports: DGP

SRINAGAR, Aug 1: Jammu and Kashmir Police has been contributing a lot in encouraging the youth to excel in national competitions. Sports activities carried out by JKP are proving prudent in promoting sports culture, besides inculcating moral values among the youth of the State.
This was disclosed by the Director General of Police (DGP)  Ashok Prasad while receiving the 20th State Football Championship trophy. He said that JKP has been contributing in sports arena and has carried out various sports activities under its civic action programme. Besides its excellence in professional policing, the force has also stood high in promoting sports activities in the State.
Sports activities in the far-flung areas of the State have been carried out to inculcate sports talent among the youth of down trodden sections also. Such activities, besides inspiring the youth, have strengthened police public relations which are a positive sign to provide better policing to the people.
20th State Football Championship was organized by Department of Youth Services and Sports in which 38 teams all across the State participated. Jammu and Kashmir Police lifted the championship after beating the defending champions Jammu and Kashmir Bank with a solitary goal in the final match of the championship at Polo-Ground. JKP has won the championship after a gap of eight years.
While interacting, Mr. Prasad appreciated the JKP team for their performance in lifting the championship. He stressed upon the players to continue their efforts and refine their talent to earn a good name for the State. He said that the championship has provided an opportunity to the players to compete with the reputed teams and identify the areas for improvement.
DGP also lauded the role of ADGP Armed S. M. Sahai for his personal efforts for promoting sports culture within the organization. Such activities have helped in creating an atmosphere of discipline, dedication and patience among the personnel. He expressed his hope that the police sports teams in all disciplines would excel in high level competitions and bring laurels for the State and the organization.
