JKP to host National Water Sports Championship from July 27 to 31: DGP

SRINAGAR, July 4: As a part of its Civic Action Programme, Jammu and Police (JKP) will host 5-day long National Water Sports Championship from July 27 to 31 in world famous Dal Lake with a scenic view of Zabarwan hills.
The Championship would witness a large participation of national players from different states, water sports bodies and educational institutions of the State.
This was disclosed by Director General of Police (DGP), K Rajendra Kumar at a high level meeting of police officers held at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today. The meeting was convened to discuss various arrangements with regard to the sports meet.
Giving the details, Rajendra said that the Water Sports Championship is expected to be participated by a large number of students and participants representing various educational institutions, NGOs and Sports Clubs. Besides a large number of sports person will participate in various events of the sports meet.
The meeting decided that the event would be inaugurated on July 27 at Nehru Park. It will begin with paddle past and oath ceremony of the participants. Demo for water sinking, dragon boat race and cultural programme would be the part of first day of the festival.
The meeting also discussed various arrangements including police security in and around the venue.
Rajendra said that the sports meet is organized by JKP annually to promote water sports among the youth of the State.
DGP disclosed that Championship would include various aqua events like water polo, kayak & canoe, swimming, shikara race, dragon boat race and demb boat race and the winners of different events would be given cash prizes. The 5-day meet would also witness band display and special cultural items, he added.
Earlier, MD Police Housing Corporation, Dilbag Singh, who is also Organizing Secretary of the National event, apprised the meeting about holding of National level event in the Dal Lake. The IGP IR, Kashmir briefed the meeting about the arrangements put in place for conduct of successful event through a power point presentation.
Among others present were ADGPs, VK Singh and SM Sahai, IGPs, Dr B Srinivas, AK Choudhary, SJM Gillani, AG Mir, MS Salaria, MA Khan, Mukesh Singh, SL Sharma, Jagjit Kumar, MA Ganai and JP Singh, VC Lawda, Sarmad Hafeez, Bilquis Mir from State Sports Council and other police officers.
