SRINAGAR, Oct 16: 61st All India Police Hockey Championship is being held at Jammu from December 7, 2012. The championship is being organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police and would last for eight days. It would conclude on December 14, 2012.
Arrangements for the championship were discussed at a senior police officers meeting held at Armed Police Headquarters Jammu this evening. The meeting was chaired by the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Armed/Law & Order, K. Rajendra Kumar.
Addressing the meeting, Rajendra disclosed that 26 teams representing different states and Central police Organizations of the country would be participating in the eight days long championship. The championship would be played at different venues in Jammu city. He said that JKP has organized various national sports events earlier in different disciplines including All India Police Football Championship, All India Police Wrestling Cluster and National Athletic Meet. All these national championships are held under the aegis of All India Police Sports Control Board, he added.
The ADGP said that such activities have helped to promote the talent of our sports persons within the department, besides providing opportunity to the spots lovers particularly the youth of the State to witness national level competitions in the State. He said that our sports persons have excelled, bring laurels for the Organization and the State. Besides national level championships, the Organization has been organizing a series of sports activities in different parts of the State within and outside the department to promote sports culture.
To ensure arrangements for the prestigious championship, various committees were constituted and venues for the championship discussed. Lodging and boarding for the guest teams was discussed in the meeting and it was decided that convenient accommodation would be provided to the visiting teams and the management.
The ADGP stressed upon the officers to work in close coordination and utilize previous experiences for making the championship a success.
