JAMMU, June 22: Ace volleyball player, 6 feet 3 inch, 17 year old youngster Saqlain Tariq from the remote district of Poonch has been selected as the member of the Indian team to play in Youth Asian Volleyball Championship in September, 2014.
The Championship will be held at Colombo in Sri Lanka.
Presently, the coaching camp for this forthcoming prestigious championship is going on vigorously at Gandhi Nagar in Gujarat, under the aegis of Sports Authority of India (SAI).
It is the proud moment for the State of Jammu and Kashmir that after Parvez Rasool and Shubam Khajuria’s participation in the International Cricket, a young and energetic youth from the State has made it to the National Volleyball Team.
It is pertinent to mention here that Saqlain Tariq alias Jaanu belongs to that family of Poonch which has the legacy to be the part of the volleyball teams on the State as well on the national level.
Saqlain’s father Tariq Khan has himself remained a volleyball player and has represented the State in eighties and nineties. His elder brother Rameez Tariq has also played in senior State tournaments.
Saqlain Tariq began his volleyball playing in Shaheed Manjit Singh Volleyball Club under the guidance of his father and left the State to lead the Punjab junior team. He is the 12th class student of Arya Samaj School of Khanna, in Punjab.
