JAMMU, Nov 30: Playing his 2nd World Cup, Hiteshwar Singh of Jammu and Kashmir emerged as the highest goal scorer for the gold medal winner Indian Rollball team in 5th Rollball World Cup held at Chennai recently.
Defending Champion India lead by Adtiya Ganeshwade of Maharahtra defeated Kenya in the final by eight goals to four (8-4), while in the semifinal, India defeated strong Bangladesh by two goals to one (2:1) after trailing by (0-1) at the half time. Enroute to semifinal, India defeated Egypt, Senegal, Belarus, New Zealand, England, Vietnam and Maldives in the league stages.
In women section much to the dismay of capacity crowd of around 15,000 people at ICF Indoor stadium Chennai, Kenya stunned India (represented by two girls of Jammu and Kashmir namely Khushi Gupta & Suvidha Sareen) by two gaoals to one (2:1) to clinch the World Cup.
India reached final by defeating Egypt in semifinal and England in the quarterfinal. In league stages, India defeated Bangladesh, China, Maldives and Australia. Khushi Gupta scored 6 goals and Suvidha Sareen netted 3 goals during the tournament.
This tournament was the 2nd International Tournament of Suvidha Sareen.
It is pertinent to mention here that 5 boys and 3 girls from Jammu & Kashmir were selected as probable for selection camp. Only 3 players (2 girls and 1 boy) had made it to the final 12.
36 teams from all over the World took part in this mega event.
Madhu Sharma, mentor of Jammu and Kashmir Rollball players was heading the technical panel in this 5th Rollball World Cup.
The members of Rollball Association of Jammu and Kashmir have congratulated the players for this achievement.
