J&K’s Mukta, Afreen win bronze as Indian Taekwondo team excels

JAMMU, Apr 11: Indian Taekwondo team won 3 silver and 2 bronze medals in 1st Women International Taek-wondo Championship 2017 at Kathmandu, Nepal, recently.
The Championship was organized by Women Empowerment Committee and Nepal Taekwondo Association, under the egis of Nepal Olympic Association.
Around 8 countries participated in this Championship.
This was the first ever International Women Taekw-ondo Championship organized by any National Federation.
The main motive of conducting this Championship was Women Empowerment in sports and allied activities.
Taekwondo Federation of India sent 8-member Women National team for this Championship and players from across the country selected included 3 female players from J&K namely Mukta Gupta, Afreen Hyder and Bazalla Mushtaq.
While Mukt won bronze medal in individual Poomsae event, Afreen claimed bronze medal in Under-57kg and Bazaalla Mushtaq was also part of the Indian team.
Other players who won medals for India included Shraddha Dixit from Uttar Pradesh, who won silver medal in under-49kg and also won best player award of the Championship with  cash prize of Rs 51000, while Kritika Thakur under 46kg and Shivani Thakur under 53kg won bronze medals for India
The Indian team was accompanied by J&K’s Atul Pangotra and Harish Tokas from Delhi as Head Coach and Coach respectively.
President, Taekwondo Federation of India, Chetan Anand met Indian team after its arrival and congratulated the medal winners and coaches. Secretary General TFI, Prabhat Sharma lso lauded the efforts of the winners.
Chairman J&K Taekwondo Association, Anil Gupta (Annu); President PC Sharma; General Secretary, DN Pangotra; Vice President, Nissar Hussain and Organizing Secretary, Anuj Sharma  lauded the J&K players for this achievement.
