JAMMU, Jan 2: After eight years of relentless training and dedication, Jammu and Kashmir’s International Para Archer, Rakesh Kumar, is set to be honoured with the prestigious Arjuna Award. The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS) officially announced the recipients of the 2024 National Sports Awards today. The awards will be conferred on the athletes by President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 17.
Expressing his joy and pride, Rakesh Kumar told EXCELSIOR, “It’s a dream come true for me. This is a major achievement in my career after eight years of hard work and winning several national and international medals for the country.” He continued, “I feel immense gratitude and joy to have reached this stage in my journey.”
Rakesh, who has represented India in numerous international events, went on to thank the support and guidance he has received throughout his career. “I give the whole credit of this achievement to our coaches and the Management of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) and its Chairman LG Manoj Sinha and CEO Anshul Garg for their unwavering support,” he stated.
Notably, Rakesh’s teammate, Sheetal, was awarded the Arjuna Award last year, and this year, it is Rakesh’s turn to join the ranks of India’s sporting elite.
