JAMMU, Feb 1: Sarla Devi and Chitra Singh Jamwal, two female cricketers from Jammu and Kashmir who are currently a part of the Senior Women’s North Zone One-Day squad, secured a spot in the playing XI against East Zone at Darshanam Sports and Education Academy, Vadodara, marking a first in the history of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA).
Though, it was not a good outing for Sarla Devi, who was instrumental in North Zone’s victory in her first outing against South Zone on the other day, yet Chitra bowled well and took 2 important wickets, however, she was unlucky to be run out when shaping well with the bat.
Though, it was a one-sided affair as East Zone thrashed North Zone by a big margin of 194 runs, yet it was a great day for Jammu and Kashmir for the fact that two of its players found place in the Playing XI of this prestigious tournament.
What is more exciting is that apart from Sarla and Chitra, Satika Sharma is also part of the Senior Women’s North Zone One-Day squad as Strengthening and Conditioning Coach. It is pertinent to mention here that the players from Jammu and Kashmir are frequently making it to the Senior Men, Women and age group squads in the present regime of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association.
