J&K’s Subhanaya to represent India at Fencing World C’ship

JAMMU, Mar 21: Young ace fencer Subhanaya Sharma from Jammu and Kashmir has been selected to represent India at the upcoming Cadet and Junior Fencing World Championship in Wuxi, China. This prestigious event will follow a rigorous coaching camp organized by the Sports Authority of India, which commenced in Pune from March 20 and will end on April 11.
Subhanaya’s selection comes after her remarkable performance at the 19th Cadet National Fencing Championship (Boys & Girls) for the 2024-2025 season held in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand. She secured a bronze medal in the Sabre event, competing under the Jammu and Kashmir Fencing Association banner.
Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul, International fencer Rashid Ahmed Choudhary, Adv. Supriya Chouhan and Maninder Pal Singh praised her achievement, calling it a proud moment for the region.
Subhanaya’s journey in fencing is guided by her coach, Ujjwal Gupta, a former international fencer and recipient of the State Award and Sher-i-Kashmir Award. Vijay Kumar, President of the Jammu and Kashmir Fencing Association, and General Secretary Javed Choudhary also extended their wishes.
