JAMMU, Dec 27: Talented young tennis player of Jammu and Kashmir, Sumitpal Singh sparkled in the Indian team’s outstanding show in the ongoing Asian Tennis Junior Championship, being held in Qatar.
In this Championship, India entered the finals by defeating Indonesia in the semifinals by (2-0).
Earlier, in the league matches, India drubbed Qatar by (3-0), got better of Behrain by (3-0), trounced Hong Kong by (2-1), thrashed Sri Lanka by (3-0) and defeated Pakistan by (3-0).
In the first league match with Qatar, Sumitpal Singh played one match in singles, wherein he defeated Mubarak Al Sulaiti by (6-0, 6-0), while in second league match against Behrain Sumitpal defeated Alyas Abdulnabi by (6-1, 6-0) in singles, while in doubles, Sumitpal and Vikas Singh beat All Dawan and Hammad Abdullal by (6-0, 6-0).
In the third league match with Hong Kong, Sumitpal lost to Ching Lam by (0-6,4-6) in singles, while in doubles, he alongwith Parikshit Somani defeated Wesley Ka Wul Law and Wal Leuk Lawn Lee by ( 6-7, 6-2, 6-4).
In fourth league match with Sri Lanka, Sumitpal Singh and Parikshit Somani drubbed Jerique Rajapakshe and Isur Wijjeratne by (6-1, 6-2), while in fifth league match against Pakistan, Sumitpal defeated Mujahid Khan by (6-1, 6-3) in singles, while in doubles, the duo of Sumitpal Singh and Parikshit Somani defeated Mujahid Khan and Muzammi Murtuza by ( 6-0, 7-6).
In the semifinals against Hong Kong, Sumitpal Singh defeated Indra Wahyu Anshari by (7-6, 6-2).
