JAMMU, Jan 13: All J&K Transporters Welfare Association chairman T S Wazir and president Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries Rakesh Gupta along with some prominent transporters called on the Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu and Transport Minister, Sunil Sharma and apprised them of the problems being faced by transporters.
Wazir accompanied by various transporters and CCI president during meeting with Drabu submitted a memorandum with charter of demands. The Finance Minister gave assurance waiving off interest/ penalty on Passenger tax and also to waive off six months Token Tax and Passenger tax from July Ist, 2016 to Dec 31, 2016, and also assured that 50 % Principal amount of pending Passenger Tax will be waived off later.
Drabu also said that Passenger Welfare Fund which was imposed on the transporters will be withdrawn because they are paying huge amount to the Insurance companies for the compensation to the accident victims. The FM also agreed to give special benefit for replacement of 10 years to 25 years old vehicles in the State.
Later, they also met the Transport Minister and discussed their issues. Transport Commissioner, IGP Traffic and RTO Jammu/ Kathua were also present during the meeting. The minister assured that on the plea of the Transporters body a higher level meeting with Chief Minister will be arranged soon for seeking on the spot resolution of some of their issues.
