JAMMU, Apr 5: In continuation to the massive de-silting drive launched by Transport Section of Jammu Municipal Corporation under Swachh Bharat Mission, a heavy duty rock breaker was today deployed at Kunj Vihar Lane, Sector 4, Nanak Nagar nallah for removing the encroachment on the nallah, so that proper de-silting of the nallah under slab can be carried out.
The drive was launched on February 1 to de-silt the nallah up to bed level and approximately 40,000 MT garbage has been de-silted till date from the nallahs so as to avoid any kind of flash flood during rainy season.
On July 9 last year, there was flash flood in this area due to heavy rainfall and water entered into houses of local inhabitants and damaged the property of people. The area remained cut off for 2-3 days and there had been water logging up to 6 ft. The water overflowing was primarly due to inproper de-silting which was not carried out timely and due to encroachment on nallah by RCC Slab of 18”-24” thickness.
The operation was launched on the direction of Commissioner, JMC headed by CTO, JMC, under the supervision of RS Jamwal, Joint Commissioner (A), JMC.
