JAMMU, Apr 24: Under the guidelines of Swachh Bharat Mission and on the instructions of Dr. Manmohan Singh, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) R.S. Jamwal, Joint Commissioner (A), JMC, Dr. Anita Salgotra, Health Officer, organized Information Education and Behavior Change Campaign and distributed dustbins to the shopkeepers and households at High Court and Bhawani Nagar area Ward No. 36.
The households dustbins were distributed in two colours i.e. Blue & Green for segregation. On this occasion Kasturi Lal president Market Associations High Court and other office bearers were also present.
The Joint Commissioner (A) JMC apprised the Shopkeepers Association at High Court that these dustbins are distributed to each and every shopkeeper so that they can collect their garbage in them and the JMC workers will dispose off the garbage or they can also individually disposed off in nearby containers. This will give neat and clean look in and around the vicinity of their shops.
Speaking at Bhawani Nagar where household dustbins in two different colours were distributed (green bin for biodegradable wet waste and blue bin for non-biodegradable dry waste). This initiative has been taken so that the source segregation shall be start at the earliest. He appealed the residents that now it is their responsibility to segregate the garbage properly for further disposal. He also appealed the residents to start the compost at their premises and use it in their lawns.
The Health Officer apprised the residents that the segregation is compulsory under guidelines of SBM so it is responsibility of every citizen to segregate waste at source. This will also reduce quantity of garbage being lifted and dumped by the Corporations at dumping site. The officers also appealed the residents of the locality to cooperate with Jammu Municipal Corporation and segregate the 100% garbage for further disposal.
