JMC Mayor spells out plans to make Jammu ‘Smart City’

JAMMU, Mar 6: Mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation, Chander Mohan Gupta today spelled out his plans to make the winter capital a ‘Smart City’ through a multi-sectoral treatment and said the ailing town needed a multi-pronged approach with regard to anti-encroachment movement, beautification, better sanitation and completion of development projects.
While addressing a press conference, here today, the Mayor informed that new Auto has been provided to each ward to lift the garbage from wards. “From now onwards, JMC Auto will also visit every temple to gather offered flowers and other worship items towards dumping yard where it will be converted into manure to use it for cultivation of new plants and flowers,” he said. Mayor stressed on awareness related to solid waste management and said that people should be aware of dry and wet waste and type of bins to be used for collection. He said in this regard JMC is organizing awareness programmes in Schools and Colleges to create more awareness to make Jammu clean and green.
He also asked the dairy owners within JMC limits for installation of Biogas unit in their dairy units. He appealed them not to let the animals stray on roads/public lanes. He urged the local public not to defecate in open and contact JMC for IHHL and CT/PT for construction. The Mayor informed that JMC is providing Rs 17500 for construction of toilets and if anyone wants to make it at its own in better way, JMC will directly deposit said amount in their account.
Talking about his strategy to improve sanitation facilities in the winter capital, the Mayor said the focus will be on construction of more toilets, better drainage setup and garbage disposal mechanisms as well as ensuring the city is totally polythene-free. Admitting shortage of staff like sweepers as a “major obstacle”, Gupta added he will take up the issue with authorities concerned and ensure that all vacant posts are filled up. Gupta said a new Sewerage Project will be taken up at Bawe.
Gupta said his another focus is on installation of street lights everywhere in the City and in this regard 8000 street lights have already been installed. He further informed that 24 safaikaramcharis for each newly added ward have been deputed while those upgraded will get 12 each Safaikaramcharis to ensure healthy environment in every ward.
Meanwhile, the Mayor JMC onducted tour of the areas of Lower Roop Nagar, Durga Nagar etc alongwith Councilor of Ward number 66 namely Tripta Devi and concerned officers/officials of different section of JMC. Mayor also distributed Golden Cards under Aayushman Bharat Yojna to the beneficiaries.
The people putforth their demands of their areas infront of Mayor regarding sanitation, development of drains & lanes lifting of straydogs /animals. The Mayor directed the concerned officers on spot to resolve their issues.
