JAMMU, July 24: Continuing the programmes under “Swachh Bharat Week”, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) organized a quiz competition regarding Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in collaboration with Model Institute of Education and Research (MIER), BC Road.
Minister of State for Education, Culture and Information, Priya Sethi was the chief guest and JMC Commissioner, Soujanya Sharma was the guest of honour. Chairman of the Institute Dr Arun Gupta and Director Renu Gupta were also present.
The Edison House (Team D) comprising of Anmol Kashap, Purnima and Uzma secured first position and were awarded with Rs 3000 cash prize, whereas the second position was claimed by Einstein House (Team A) comprising of Avikanshit Dogra, Nishita Aggarwal and Sagrika Sharma and were awarded with Rs 2000 cash prize. The third position was secured by Newton House comprising of Divanshu Sharma, Vikas Kandal and Pankaj Keenar and were awarded with Rs 1000 cash prize. The consolation prize of Rs 500 was awarded to Darwin House comprising of Abishiek, Maryam and Priyanshu.
Underscoring on the need to spread awareness about Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the Minister said “We have to join hands to make the mission a grand success and the Government would take all necessary measures on its part to ensure cleanliness in our towns and cities”.
Calling upon the participants to involve in the noble mission of cleanliness, Priya said tourists from all across the country and world visit the State and impact of clean tourist destinations, cities and towns would go a long way in making the image of the State.
JMC Commissioner Soujanya Sharma stressed that everyone should avoid using polythene as this is not only polluting environment but also the main source of choking drains/nallahs. Dustbins and identified collection points by JMC for disposal of garbage should also be used to make our environment healthy and clean.
On the occasion, JMC also distributed pamphlets highlighting ‘how to make city neat and clean’.
Among others present were Joint Director of the institute, Dr Adit Gupta, Principal Usha Gadoo, Management Representative Rupa Gupta, Coordinator Manju Wali, Sanitation Officer Darshan Abrol, Sanitary Inspector Sushil Singh, Senior Assistant Ashwani Kumar, Ramesh Kumar, Rachit Gupta and others staff from the Corporation.
Municipal Veterinary Officer/Zonal Officer-II (Sanitation) Dr Zaffar Iqbal was the quiz master.
