JMC to adopt e-governance for quick disposal of complaints: Commissioner

JAMMU, Sept 11:  For addressing grievances of people as well as ensuring a direct feedback on its services, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has planned to adopt e-governance to ensure a transparent and effective system.
“For  strengthening online system, JMC is going to update its website besides launching a new system of  submitting complaints or grievances through mobile phone application so that people may get quick response,” said Mandeep Kour, newly appointed JMC Commissioner, during an informal chat with media persons, here today.
Besides, she added, surprise visits to different localities for on the spot assessment of JMC services have been initiated for effective implementation of civic works of the Corporation, especially sanitation.
The Commissioner maintained that the Corporation was working under a well knit strategy to deliver services in an effective manner to the common people but without active public participation, the objective of a neat and clean Jammu was not possible.
“In this regard, zone wise committees comprising senior citizens and locals are being constituted to ensure accountability and proper monitoring of development works and sanitation drives,” she explained  and also asked the people  to identify  grey areas and scope of improvement so that the proposal for construction of public assets accordingly be forwarded to the concerned quarters.
While elaborating on the plans to deal with certain issues like roadside encroachment by vendors, conjunction etc, the Commissioner informed that JMC has started an exercise to identify sites for construction of ideal parking slots, super markets, commercial sites etc.
Mandeep Kour said that many development projects, envisaging a total change in the profile of Jammu city, are also in pipeline as JMC has no shortage of funds. She also informed that JMC is celebrating sanitation week from September 25 on the occasion of 1st anniversary of Swatch Bharat Abhiyan scheme launched by the Prime Minster of India.
Even as JMC has initiated sterilization of stray dogs to check the menace, the JMC Commissioner was in the favour of adopting a human approach towards the issue and she suggested that the problem could be overcome if people start adopting stray dogs and feed them.
As per JMC records, there are approximately 42000 stray dogs in Jammu and 413 of them have been sterilized so far.
Joint Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation, R S Jamwal, Health Officer Dr Mohammad Saleem, Municipality Veterinary Officer Dr Zafar Iqbal besides other officers of JMC were also present on the occasion.
