NEW DELHI, Sep 25: Describing generosity as the most pleasurable experience of life, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today exhorted the youths to be encouraged to turn towards donation and mercy. In his monthly ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme broadcast on All India Radio, the Prime Minister said, ‘’The Joy of giving’’ week going to be celebrated from October 2 to 8 is in fact a sort of “Generosity Week” for which the youngsters ought to be encouraged.’’
Complimenting the youngsters engaged in helping others, he said one derives a peculiar pleasure by ‘giving’ to others irrespective of whether anyone recognises the initiative or not. The joy of “donating” is incredible and uncomparable.
In this context, Mr Modi talked about his appeal to people to give up gas subsidy and said when he made the fervent request to the countrymen regarding shunning the facility extended to them by the Government, the kind of positive response he got was much inspiring.
The Prime Minister said the youths, small organisations, many corporates, schools and many non-Governmental organisations will be celebrating “Joy of giving week” from October 2 to 8 in many states. As part of celebrations, he has plans to distribute food and clothes to the needy.
Recalling his olden days in Gujarat, Mr Modi said the workers venturing into the narrow lanes of the city used to collect the discarded toys from families in donation and distribute them among the poor in Anganwadis. The happiness that I used to get seeing the children get those toys cannot be described in words, he said. (UNI)
