JAMMU, Aug 9: Expressing serious concern on the rigid attitude of State Government for continuing imposition of toll tax on goods at Lakhanpur which resulted into steep hike in the prices of essential commodities and is a burden on the consumers of the State, Jammu Province People’s Forum (JPPF) strongly opposed this double taxation and decides to fight tooth and nail against this injustice.
Score of JPPF members led by its president Pavitter Singh Bhardwaj assembled near Maharaja Hari Singh Park on Tawi Bridge and raised anti-Government slogans. Alleging that it is also contrary to the very spirit of Government slogan ‘One Nation One Tax’, Pavitter further warned if State Government did not reconsider its decision toll tax on goods at Lakhanpur, a decisive struggle will be launched by JPPF, as it has already agitated on this double taxation on many occasions but no positive response has come so far and the Government is maintaining a criminal silence on this sensitive issue.
JPPF also condemned the State Government’s move of imposition of Kashmiri language on Jammuites. “Recently State Government sanctioned 49 posts of Assistant Professors of Kashmiri Language for posting in 47 degree colleges of Jammu Province and these posts are out of 74 posts converted from other languages in spite of widespread and stiff opposition and criticism by almost all social organizations of Jammu Province,” he said adding that the ruling coalition is adamant in its agenda of changing culture of Jammu by imposing Kashmiri Language in Jammu province.
JPPF warned the State Government to immediately revoke this controversial order.  The Forum cautioned people of Jammu to be aware of such nefarious designs of this misleading Government.
The Forum also reiterated its earlier demand for separate PSC for Jammu Province so that justice can be met with Jammu Youth. JPPF also called upon the State Government to immediately complete the ongoing developmental projects in Jammu Province especially tourism related projects.
