JAMMU, Jan 4: 40 runners, young and old, clubbed under the banner of the Jammu Runners Group (JRG) brought together by the common love for running, braved the morning chill to participate in the Surinsar Hill Half Marathon, commemorating the year dedicated to running.
It was a beautiful congregation of the enthusiasts of different age groups with everyone wanting to cherish, outdo and push their potential to new heights.
At 6 am, beginning from the Hill View Honda showroom, the runners after doing good with the conventional group photograph began the run that was going to be challenging yet picturesque.
What started in the dawn was soon morphing into a beautiful sunrise and the warm rays marrying the winter chill lifted everyone’s spirit to enjoy the run which was a 22.2 kilometers long stretch till the Surinsar lake point.
Starting from the Honda Showroom Sidra, the runners ran adjacent to the Bjalta, Chilah, Badgah, Dhabad, Chalanah, Trijiad Villages and reached the majestic Lake Surnisar Point, which felt heavenly, well earned and priceless at once.
Running on the Shiwaliks was the first of its kind for many of the participants.
Overlooking the majestic Tawi, the periodic play of ascent and descent did add to one’s strained muscles but everyone gleefully accepted the challenge with open arms. The entire run was well organized with the availability of mobile hydration points at equal distances.
The participants were also presented with their participating trophies and once again the official group photograph in the backdrop of the JRG banner culminated the event.
The Surinsar Hill Half Marathon was yet another feather on the cap on the Jammu Runners Group which has a rich legacy of producing runners par excellence. The group boosts a rich collection of individuals belonging to varied age groups, many of whom have turned their life clock back by years and this instils more air to the spirit of the young runners.
The entire troop, especially the organizers of JRG namely Rajeshwar Singh, Dr Dilawar, Sanjeev Chadha, Nakul Saraf, Mukesh, Rakesh and Sajan were elated to see the response and the sense of festivity that the event bore and happily look forward to organizing many more such events in the near future.
