JAMMU, May 4: Jammu University has put a complete ban on sale of cola drinks and junk food on the campus with immediate effect.
A notification signed by Prof Satnam Kaur, Dean Students Welfare, has directed all the eateries in the university campus to stop further sale of junk food and cola drinks failing which action under rules shall be initiated against them.
The ban on sale of cola drinks and junk food came after a memorandum was submitted  by ‘YUVA’ (Youth and Vivekananda),  a group of university students wherein the students body had requested the Dean Students Welfare to order a ban of all such eatable products in the university campus that cause ill effects on the health of students.
In their submission, the students group cited a circular of University Grants Commission issued in November last year to all universities of the country to take measures to ban selling and availability of junk food in university campus and affiliated colleges, sensitize students on ill effect of junk food on their health and to create awareness about proper nutrition, exercise and healthy habits.
Taking prompt action on the submission, the Dean Students Welfare vide order no. JU/DSW/2017/488-508, directed all eateries on the campus to stop the sale of Junk/Fast food and cola drinks with immediate effect.
