JU Class-IV employees threaten to intensify strike from tomorrow

JAMMU, July 24: Infuriated over the Jammu University decision of declaring their ongoing daily token strike for three hours as illegal and invoking of `no work no pay’ order, the JU Non-Gazetted Employees Union has announced to further intensify their struggle from Tuesday.
“A general body meeting of the NGEU shall be held on Monday to discuss strategy for intensifying the agitation from Tuesday itself, which may involve JU security staff and cooks in the university mess,” said Vijay Kumar, president of NGEU, while addressing a hurriedly called press conference on the campus, here today.
Urging the employees to remain united and ready for the decisive battle, the NGEU president also appealed the Non Teaching Employees Union to come forward and join hands with them for opposing arbitrary order of no work no pay.
The NGEU leader claimed that the striking Class-IV employees were observing token strike only for four hours and had been performing their routine duties during rest of the time. “Employees are fully cooperated with staff of university during the admission process, complex is neat and clean, sweepers are already performing their duties before the commencement of the token strike period i.e. 10.00 a.m to 2.00 p.m,” Vijay Kumar said while terming the no work no pay order is illogic, and anti-employees.
On the occasion, JKPDTU State president, Suresh Sharma extended support to the agitating employees and strongly condemned the alleged autocratic approach of the Vice Chancellor.
“The agitating employees’ grievances, which stand considered from time to time by the University should have been addressed without any delay so as to avoid any confrontation with the employees,” he said and demanded immediate revocation of controversial order of no work no pay so as to avoid further unrest amongst the employees.
Suresh Sharma also warned that university repressive measures would be counter productive and shall be fought tooth and nail.
NGEU leaders Banarasi Lal, Suraj Parkash and Raj Kumar Billowria were also present during the press conference.
