JU faces 6 wkts defeat; KU retains title

JAMMU, Dec 3: After thrashing Jammu University (JU) in the semis last year in New Delhi, Kashmir University again outplayed Jammu University in the finals and retained the title trophy of All India Vice Chancellor’s T-20 Cricket Tournament held at Jammu University grounds here today.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Jammu University made 118 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in allotted 20 overs. Raj Kumar made 32 runs while Amit Targotra chipped in 18 runs. Vishal Sudan and Sumit Sharma also contributed 17 runs respectively while, Rajesh also made 14 runs.
For Kashmir University side, Parvez Parrey and Parvez scalped 2 wickets, while Latief Ahmed and Ghulam Mohi-u-Din took one wicket apiece.
In reply, Kashmir University chased the target in 18.3 overs for the loss of 4 wickets. Shahnawaz made 38 runs with the help of five boundaries, while Parvez Parray, Altaf Ahmed and Sohail contributed 28, 20 and 14 runs respectively.
For Jammu University side, Raj Kumar was the pick of the bowler with 2 wickets, while Rajesh and Skipper Daud Iqbal Baba took one wicket each.
Parvez Parrey of Kashmir University was declared as man of the match for his all-round performance.
The match was officiated by Harbinder Singh and Sudhir Singh as umpires, while Yogesh Sharma maintained the scorecard.
On the valedictory function, Chief Minister and Pro-Chancellor of University of Jammu, Omar Abdullah, was the chief guest who distributed prizes among the winner and runner-up teams in presence of Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Vice Chancellor, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, Jammu University, Jang Bahadur, Principal, District and Sessions Judge, K Rajendra Kumar, ADGP, Armed/ Law and Order, Mohd Aslam Goni, Chairman, JKCA, Dilbagh Singh, IGP Jammu, Prof Rekha Chaudhary, DRS, Prof Neelam Saraf, DAA, Jeelani Wani, President KUMSA, Sunil Sahi, President, JUNTEU, Deans, Directors, students, scholars and members of the civil society.
While speaking, Chief Minister appreciated the efforts of the organizers for organizing the tournament successfully.
“Government is working for the upliftment of the sports infrastructure in the State”, he added.
Omar Abdullah said that sports plays pivotal role for overall development of the body and advised the youth to participate in sports activities to keep their body mentally and physically fit.
Earlier, Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Vice Chancellor, Jammu University, presented the welcome address. Prof Ishar said that it was an honour for the Jammu University to host this mega event in which shortlisted teams from 20 Universities of the Country participated and exhibited their skills.
At the end, Prof Dhain Singh Bhau, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu presented vote of thanks, while, the proceeding of the event was conducted by Dr Yash Pal Sharma.
