JU organises Inter-Collegiate Debate

JAMMU, Jan 11: Office of the Program Coordinator, NSS, University of Jammu organized 14th Prof B D Sharma Memorial Inter-Collegiate/Inter-Departmental Debate on the topic “Introduction of FDI in retail in India will increase the National income and boost the Indian Economy,” here today.
The event is being organized every year by this office in the memory of Prof BD Sharma, a renowned economist of the State.
The debate began with the lighting of the traditional lamp, which was followed by the floral tributes paid to late Prof BD Sharma. In all 18 teams comprising of 36 participants participated in the competition.
Dr Vishav Raksha, Program Coordinator, while presenting welcome address introduced the theme of the debate, while Prof Jasbir Singh, Provost Hostels (Boys) /Chairman, NSS Campus Units was the chief guest on the occasion, who highlighted the academic and research achievements of Prof BD Sharma.
Richa Abrol from GGM Science College won the first prize, while Vinee Mahajan from GCW Gandhi Nagar stood second and Sahil Mehta, from MAM College bagged the third prize. Two encouragement prizes were also given to Sonia Sharma, from GGM Science College and Ekta Mahajan, from Adarsh College of Education. GGM Science College bagged the 14th Prof BD Sharma Memorial Trophy.
Dr Anupama Vohra, Dr Sunita Sharma and Dr Aruna Sharma were the adjudicators of the Competition. Dr Hema Gandotra, Program Officer, University of Jammu, presented the vote of thanks.
Dr Aroon Sharma, son of Prof BD Sharma also graced the occasion and presented the Trophy to the winning team.
Prof Dipanker Sen Gupta, Dr Sanjay Sharma, Dr Virender Koundal, Shakun Sharma, Syed Nasir, Shiv Dutt, Popinder Kour, Vijay Kumar and Jago Singh were also present among others.
The proceedings of the program were conducted by Pinaki Bakshi.
