NEW DELHI : The Supreme Court today refused to entertain PILs challenging the Judicial Appointments Commission Bill.
A bench comprising Justices Anil R Dave, J Chalameswar and A K Sikri noted that the petitions were premature and dismissed the same.
Though the Bill has been passed by both Houses of Parliament, it is yet to be ratified by more than 15 states and is yet to receive the assent of the President of India. The bill after receiving the approval of the President would replace the collegium system of the selection of Supreme Court and High Court judges.
Political parties are of the view that the collegium system of selection and elevation of the High Court and Supreme Court judges has failed as it lacks transparency. Chief Justice of India Justice R M Lodha has, however, been firmly defending the collegium system and said, “Collegium system has not failed. There is sinister campaign to defame judiciary.”
The Supreme Court dismissed all the PILs filed by Advocates-on-record Association and others. (AGENCIES)
