JAMMU, May 6: Member of Parliament from Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary constituency & BJP State president Jugal Kishore Sharma, while participating in the proceedings of Lok Sabha during the current session of Parliament, raised the issue of the damages caused to the standing crops due to floods and un seasonal rains and closure of coal mines in Kalakot tehsil of Rajouri district and sought clarifications from the Union Government on these two issues.
Jugal Kishore Sharma, while inviting the attention of the House towards the plights of the farmers of Jammu and Kashmir, who have suffered unprecedented loss on account of heavy floods and unseasonal torrential rains, saying that not only crops got damaged but agricultural land also got washed away at many places. He asked the Government to clarify whether there is some plan to help and compensate the farmers expeditiously during such calamities in future.
Jugal Kishore Sharma, while raising the question of the closure of the most of the coal mines in Kalakot, said that a large number of labourers working in these mines have been rendered jobless and they have been left high and dry to fend for themselves. He wanted to know whether there was some sort of plan to make these mines productive and functional and further asking as to whether the Union Government could take over these mines since the State Government does not have adequate wherewithal and resources to run these mines. The MP also asked the Union Government to direct the State Government to enhance the daily wages of the coal labourers from the present paltry sum of Rs. 150 and also regularize them.
