JAMMU, June 2: 617th Kabir Jayanti was celebrated today by devotees and followers of Sant Kabir, who took out a procession and organized sweet water stalls for commoners.
A large number of devotees took part in the procession, which was taken out under the banner of All J&K Bhagat Community. The procession comprised of various tableaux depicting the life history and teachings of Sant Kabir.
After garlanding the statue of Sant Kabir at Kabir Rotary near Bus Stand, the followers took out procession from MA Stadium Jammu, which passed through Vikram Chowk, Asia, Gandhi Nagar, Nai Basti before culmination at Satwari Ground near Government School.
Beside other programmes, spiritual discourses were delivered by Baba Bhagwan Dass, Dina Nath and Mahant Ajay Dass on the Bani of Saints with special reference to Kabir Bani. They explained the sangat that Kabir was a living spirit of God & preached the inner richness of human values.
President of All J&K Sadguru Kabir Sabha, F C Bhagat, threw light on teachings of Sant Kabir and contribution of Shaheed Bhagat Amarnath, who fought for the upliftment and welfare of the downtrodden community.
Others, who spoke on the occasion, included Mohinder Lal, president Bhagat Mahasabha; B L Bhagat, president Megh Sudhar Sabha; Mula Ram, ex-Minister; Gagan Bhagat, MLA R S Pura; Krishan Lal, MLA and Gharu Ram, ex MLA.
The speakers appealed the State Government that Kabir Jayanti should be declared as gazetted holiday and some land be earmarked for the construction of Kabir Bhawan.
In Janipur and other areas of Jammu city, sweet water stalls were arranged by the followers of Sant Kabir.
Reports from Sunderbani said that Kabir Dass Bhagat Sabha celebrated birth anniversary of Sant Kabir Dass in village Salwa Sunderbani. MLC Surinder Chowdary and social worker Yoginder Bushey were also present on the occasion and sought blessings of the great saint. They threw light on teachings of Sant Kabir.
This was for the first time that Bhagat Sabha of Sunderbani celebrated Kabir Jayanti in temple of Kabir Dass Salwa. District president of Bhagat Sabha, Sat Paul and others also spoke on the occasion. Later, Bhandara was served among the participating devotees.
