JAMMU, Aug 28: The Kalidhar Brigade, which has been in the forefront in all major battles of Indian Army since its raising on August 28, 1965, today celebrated Golden Jubilee of its raising.
The Brigade was raised at Pathankot under Brigadier Pritpal Singh. In 1965 during Operation Grand Slam, the Brigade was employed to neutralise the enemy infiltration from Chak Karpal, Naiwali and Fatwal areas on Jourian-Akhnoor Road. The Brigade successfully repulsed all enemy attacks inflicting heavy casualty on the enemy and prevented a break through towards Akhnoor thereby thwarting the enemy designs.
The Brigade has also actively participated in the 1971 Operation Cactus Lily, Operation Vijay of 1999 and continues to be deployed in Operation Rakshak along the Line of Control in Jammu & Kashmir.
The Golden Jubilee celebrations were highlighted by the wreath laying ceremony wherein homage to the brave martyrs was paid by the previous Commanders of the Brigade who graced the occasion with their presence.
Col Virender Sahai, VrC (Retired) who was the Company Commander during the battle of Laleali also graced the occasion. The celebrations included a special Sainik Sammellan, visit to the forward areas as well as a Barakhana for all troops of the Brigade.
The event was further commemorated by release of a First Day Cover by Lt Gen KS Gill (Retired) and other Brigade Commanders and Special Stamp by the veterans of the Brigade.
