LEH, Jan 13: In thrilling final, defending champions Kang Sings retained their Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League title in the men’s category with a commanding 5-2 victory over last year’s runners-up, Changthang Shans. The match was held at the Nawang Dorjay Stobdan (NDS) Stadium, here today.
Kang Sings’ Captain Mushtaq Ahmed and Stanzin Angchok were the standout players, each scoring twice to secure the back-to-back title. The match saw Changthang Shans take an early lead in the 12th minute, but Kang Sings quickly equalized and then dominated the game. Despite Shans’ efforts, the defensive strength and offensive prowess of Kang Sings saw them pull away with a 5-2 win.
The winners were awarded a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 2.5 Lakhs, while the runners-up received Rs 1.5 Lakhs. Mushtaq Ahmed was named Best Player in the men’s category, and Padma Chorol of Maryul Spamo, who had led the women’s team to victory, was awarded the Best Player in the women’s category. Fair Play Awards were presented to Humas Warriors (men’s category) and Sham Eagles (women’s category), with each team receiving Rs 25,000.
The closing ceremony was a cultural extravaganza, with performances by Dorjey Stakmo, the Ladakh Dance Academy, and a breathtaking figure skating showcase. Dignitaries including Vikram Singh Malik, Sports Secretary of Ladakh and Surinder Khatri, DIG, ITBP, graced the occasion, presenting the trophies and cash prizes to the winners.
