Kanye West’s critics sign petition against Pan American gig

LOS ANGELES, July 19:  More than 46,000 petitioners have rallied to prevent the “Gold Digger” rapper Kanye West from headlining the closing ceremony of the upcoming Toronto’s Pan American Games.
The petition is posted on Change.Org along with headline “Don’t have Kanye West headline the closing ceremony for the Toronto Pan American Games,” reported Aceshowbiz.
“The Toronto Pan Am games have proven to be very important for Torontonians this year and have triggered a unified sense of pride in our city,” the petition read.
“It would only be just to ask a proud Torontonian (or even a Canadian for that matter) in the music industry to perform, such as Drake, Walk Off The Earth, Feist, Metric, Shania Twain, Deadmau5, Crystal Castles, Zeds Dead, The Weeknd, Peaches, K’naan, and many many more!”
The petitioners insited on chosing Toronto artists than someone from foreign land. West, 38, is from Atlanta, Georgia.
“The options for Toronto artists are far from limited and choosing someone like Kanye West raises several concerns among the people.
“Why was a local artist or group not chosen and supported, just as our local athletes are throughout the games?” it continued, “Toronto Pan Am Games organizing committee please reconsider your decision as we will NOT be attending Kanye West’s show,” the petition said.
Some West fans showed their support for him on Twitter.
“I love how so many people don’t seem to care about the Pan Am Games until @kanyewest is involved,” a Twitterati posted.
Another wrote, “I love kanye west and him doing pan am is the best thing to happen to toroto, beside top5 taking his shirt off and drake!”
This is not the first time West faced petition. Earlier this year, Galstonbury petitioners also attempted to stop the performance of Kim Kardashian’s husband. (PTI)
