Karnataka defeats J&K by inning & 130 runs

JAMMU, Dec 17: Riding on Karthikeya KP’s cracking century, Samit Dravid’s 98 and a good show by bowlers, Karnataka inflicted a humiliating defeat by an innings and 130 runs on J&K in the ongoing Cooch Behar Trophy match at JKCA Hostel Ground here today.
Earlier, Karnataka resumed their innings from an overnight score of 389/5 and declared the same at 480/5 after both the overnight batters—Dhruv Prabhakar (66*) and skipper Dheeraj Gowda (51) completed their fifties.
Karthikeya had scored 163 off 175 balls, studded with 21 fours and 5 sixes, while Dravid contributed valuable 98 runs off 159 balls with 13 fours and one six. Both the batters were in awe-inspiring touch and sent the bowlers on a leather-hunt, hitting a series of boundaries and sixes.
Mousub Mohd Bhat was the most successful bowler for J&K, who took 3 wickets, while Bismaadh Singh and Dhruv Sharma claimed one wicket each.
J&K bundled out for 180 runs in the second essay, thus lost the match by an innings and 130 runs. Rishiv (47), Nashant Kumar (43) and Hatim Reyaz (31) were the main scorers.
Samarth N, Hardik Raj and Dheeraj Gowda took 2 wickets each for Karnataka, while Samit Dravid and Agastya Raju claimed one wicket each.
Earlier, put into bat on day-1, J&K after struggling had managed to score meagre total of 170 runs in their first innings. Opener Bilal Ahmed Bhat had top scored with 44 runs off 135 balls with 6 delectable boundaries, while Dhruv Sharma and Hatim Reyaz contributed 37 and 27 runs to the total respectively.
For Karnataka, Hardik Raj was the wrecker-in-chief who took 5 wickets by conceding 28 runs in 13 overs, while Team India Coach Rahul Dravid’s son Samit Dravid bagged 2 wickets by giving away 25 runs in 11 overs.
