Karthikeya slams ton, Dravid misses century

JAMMU, Dec 16: Karthikeya KP slammed a cracking century, while Samit Dravid missed the ton by a whisker as Karnataka were in commanding position at 389/5 against Jammu and Kashmir in the ongoing Cooch Behar Trophy match at JKCA Hostel Ground here today.
Earlier, Karnataka resumed their innings from an overnight score of 96/2, rode on a huge partnership of 233 runs by Karthikeya and Dravid to score 389/5 in 84 overs at stumps on day-2 today after bad light stopped play.
Karthikeya scored 163 off 175 balls, studded with 21 fours and 5 sixes, while Dravid contributed valuable 98 runs off 159 balls with 13 fours and one six. Both the batters were in awe-inspiring touch and sent the bowlers on a leather-hunt, hitting a series of boundaries and sixes. Wicketkeeper batter Krishana also contributed 98 runs, while Dhruv Prabhakar and Dheeraj Gowda were at the crease on 20 and 11 runs respectively.
Mousub Mohd Bhat was the most successful bowler for J&K, who took 3 wickets by conceding 94 runs in 23 overs, while Bismaadh Singh and Dhruv Sharma claimed one wicket each. Earlier, put into bat on day-1, J&K after struggling had managed to score a meagre total of 170 runs in their first innings. Opener Bilal Ahmed Bhat had top scored with 44 runs off 135 balls with 6 delectable boundaries, while Dhruv Sharma and Hatim Reyaz contributed 37 and 27 runs to the total respectively. For Karnataka, Hardik Raj was the wrecker-in-chief who took 5 wickets by conceding 28 runs in 13 overs, while Team India Coach Rahul Dravid’s son Samit Dravid bagged 2 wickets by giving away 25 runs in 11 overs. With two days of play left in the match, Karnataka has already gained a huge first innings lead of 187 runs, still having 5 wickets in hand.
