Kashmir reports 12 deaths, J&K toll 419

238 new cases, J&K tally 22,396

SRINAGAR, Aug 4 : Kashmir valley reported 12 more deaths due to COVID-19 since last night, taking the fatality count due to the virus to 419 in J&K and Valley reported 238 COVID-19 cases taking the total tally in J&K to 22, 396.

Two among the 12 deaths-a 65-year-old woman from Magam Budgam and a 75-year-old man from Srinagar’s Khanyar area- were reported at CD hospital.
Also, two residents, a 65-year-old and a 55-year-old from Attina and Dregam Kremshore areas of Budgam died at SKIMS Soura and SMHS hospital respectively.
The woman from Magam Budgam was shifted from SMHS hospital to CD hospital on August 3 with underlying ailments like hypertension diabetes and “severe pneumonia with respiratory failure”. She was shifted to ICU and put to ventilator. However, this morning, the woman suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and died.
The 75 year old man from Khanyar was suffering from chronic kidney disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) severe pneumonia. He developed sudden cardiac arrest at 1.45 am and was declared dead later.
The woman from Attina Budgam was having underlying ailments and died at SKIMS Soura early today.
The man from Dregam, in Budgam was admitted with bilateral pneumonia on July 29 and died today.
An elderly man from Budgam and a 59-year-old man from Basañtbagh area of Srinagar died at SKIMS. Both of them had underlying ailments.
One person from Bandipora district also died due to COVID-19 today.
A 75-year-old man from Tral Pulwama who was admitted on 29th July died last evening.
A 50-year-old man from Bemina died this morning was tested positive after his death in the evening.
With these deaths, the fatality count due to the virus has risen to 417 in J&K including 387 in Kashmir and 30 in Jammu.
Srinagar district with 138 deaths topped the list followed by Baramulla 73, Budgam 31, Kulgam 29, Anantnag 26, Shopian 23, Pulwama 24 and Kupwara 21.
And Kashmir today reported 238 COVID-19 cases taking the total tally in J&K to 22, 396.
Giving district-wise breakup of the cases, official said that Srinagar reported 99 cases, 14 each in Baramulla and Pulwama, Kulgam 1, Shopian 11, Anantnag 37, Budgam 9, Kupwara 20, Bandipora 5 and Ganderbal 28.
In Kashmir, Srinagar topped the list with 5432 cases followed by Baramulla with 1954, Pulwama 1968 , Kulgam 1524, Shopian 1485, Anantnag 1411, Kupwara 1161, Budgam 1345, Bandipora 820 and Ganderbal 518.
A number of cases were confirmed at CD and SKIMS Soura laboratories.
At SKIMS Soura in Srinagar Virology lab 903 samples were processed and 171 tested positive. They include 30 from Badami Bagh Cantonment Srinagar, Sharifabad and RR units and 54 CRPF men from various battalions of Srinagar and Budgam.
At SKIMS Medical College Bemina Srinagar Virology lab 274 samples were processed and 41 tested positive. They include 5 from Sumbal, 10 from Gurez, 17 from Bandipora and nine from Srinagar.
At Chest Diseases Virology Laboratory in Srinagar, 995 samples were processed and 106 tested positive. They include 5 from BB Cant and one from BSF.
Meanwhile, 533 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals of Kashmir valley.
