JAMMU, Nov 7: A month long ‘Kashmir to Kanyakumari Swachh Bharat Tour de Rotary’ was today flagged off from Jammu to spread message of sanitation and cleanness.
The rally was flagged off by Deputy Chief Minister, Nirmal Singh from Rotary Bhawan, Gandhi Nagar. The rally is to promote 100 years of good work done by Rotary Foundation which raises funds for humanitarian service projects including clean and green India projects.
About 22 cyclists will cover the 4500 Kms in 33 days with 27 flag-off points across India. IGP Jammu Danish Rana and Municipal Commissioner, Dr Manmohan Singh was also present on the occasion.
The participants will travel through Delhi, Jaipur, Gandhi Nagar, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Thiruvanantha-puram to reach Kanyakumari on the December 9, 2016. Initiative has been supported by Govt. of India – Ministry of Urban Development along with the en-route Local Urban Bodies and Rotary Clubs are supporting this event, to create awareness on Swachh Bharat. Rotary club of Madras, president of Rtn Ambalavanan addressed the gathering and provided information about the entire programme.
Coordinator Dr. Dushyant Choudhary, president Rotary club Jammu Tawi, B.R Chandan, Vikram Jindal from Chennai and Ashok Gupta and Jatinder, Jaswant from Jammu Rotary club were also present on the occasion.
