SRINAGAR, Dec 27: Cold wave conditions continued in Kashmir even as there was slight respite as the mercury went up at most places during the night but day temperatures dipped by a notch today. The Meteorological Department has forecast isolated rains or snowfall over the higher reaches of the Valley tomorrow.
Srinagar recorded a low of minus 4.5 degree Celsius, slightly higher than the previous night’s minus 5.1 degree Celsius.
Srinagar was the coldest recorded place in the Valley along with the North Kashmir town of Kupwara where the night temperature went up by a degree to settle at a low of minus 4.5 degree Celsius.
The night temperature in Qazigund went up from yesterday’s minus 4.3 degree Celsius to settle at a low of minus 3.8 degree Celsius.
Kokernag, in South Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 2.7 degree Celsius.
Gulmarg, in North Kashmir, registered a low of minus 1.6 degree Celsius, an increase of three degrees from the previous night’s minus 4.6 degree Celsius.
Pahalgam, in South Kashmir, witnessed a low of minus 4.3 degree Celsius over two degrees up from minus 6.4 degree Celsius 24 hours earlier.
Leh, in Ladakh region, was the coldest recorded place in the State as the night temperature settled at a low of minus 13.2 degree Celsius, compared to last night’s minus 13.9 degree Celsius. Kargil town recorded a low of minus 11.5 degree Celsius.
The day temperatures across Kashmir also dropped today with Srinagar recording maximum day temperature of 10. 5 degree Celsius against yesterday’s 11.5 degree Celsius.
Qazigund recorded 12.8 degree Celsius, Pahalgam recorded 10.9 degree Celsius, Kokernag 11.2 degree Celsius, Kupwara 12.1 degree Celsius, Leh 5.9 degree Celsius and Kargil 6.1 degree Celsius.
Jammu recorded a maximum of 21 degree Celsius, Katra 19.5 degree Celsius, Banihal 19.5 degree Celsius, Batote 18 degree Celsius and Bhaderwah 16.5 degree Celsius.
Kashmir is currently under the grip of cold wave that has led to the freezing of lakes and water bodies. The weather has remained dry, resulting in increase in ailments like cough and common cold.
The Meteorological Department here has forecast isolated rains or snowfall over the higher reaches of the Valley for two days from tomorrow.
