JAMMU, Mar 21: Director General of Police (DGP) Dr Shesh Pal Vaid said today that certain elements trying to radicalize young minds in the Kashmir valley wouldn’t succeed as the youth wouldn’t accept their ideology, which was also evident from thousands of youths turning up for the Army recruitment in Baramulla district, which was earlier a hub of stone pelters.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting police recruitment at Gulshan Ground this morning, Dr Vaid some `Wahabi elements’ were trying to change mindset of the youth but they have outrightly rejected them.
“The youth of Kashmir are for peace. No one likes violence. Kashmir is the land of Sufis and Saints, which has been inhibited by them for centuries together. There has been no place for radicalization of the youth, who have themselves rejected this approach and want to grow with education and jobs,” he said.
Replying to a question, the State police chief said thousands of youth have come forward for recruitment in the Army at Baramulla, which was once the hub of stone pelters, which indicated that the youths want peace and jobs and wouldn’t support the elements, who were trying to radicalize the youth.
“The turnout of large number of youths for recruitment in Army at Baramulla was a clear instance of the young generation opting for peace and jobs and not siding with the elements, who want to radicalize them,” he said.
Assuring fool-proof security to the voters for upcoming by-election in Srinagar and Anantnag Lok Sabha constituencies, Dr Vaid called upon the people to turn out in large number for voting without any fear as all arrangements will be made for their security and protection.
“We are on the job. All possible security arrangements are being made for the by-elections to both the Lok Sabha constituencies,” he said, adding the people can come forward to exercise their right to franchise without any fear.
It may be mentioned here that the separatists have given a call for boycott of elections in two Lok Sabha constituencies. Srinagar and Anantnag will have by-elections on April 9 and 12 respectively.
Dr Vaid said morale of the troops is very high.
Replying to a question on detention of five Kashmiri youths in Jammu yesterday along with foreign currency, the Director General of Police said the supply of fake currency, drugs etc were part of the game-plan of terrorism.
“We are investigating the case,” he said.
On reports that militants were shifting from the International Border to Line of Control (LoC) for infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Vaid said: “Army, para-military forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police together were maintaining very high alert and vigil on the borders. Whether it is Line of Control or International Border, our forces are on high alert. The evil designs of forces across the border and the militants are not going to succeed”.
Referring to introduction of TRP system in police recruitment process, he said the Transparent Recruitment Process will wipe out corruption from the system.
“Entire recruitment process has been made transparent. The recruitment is being video recorded, the candidates can check entire process. It is a historic step, which has been taken on the initiative of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who holds the Home Department,” Dr Vaid said.
He said that no one-not even the Chief Minister and the DGP can help anyone in the recruitment process and only genuine candidates will be recruited.
