KATHUA, Sept 14: District Kathua boys defeated their counterparts from District Jammu, while Jammu District eves got the better of the girls from Samba District in their respective summit clashes, to lift the title trophies in the ongoing Divisional Level Inter-District Tennis Cricket Tournament at Sports Stadium, here today.
The Tournament was organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, under the Chairmanship of Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman, Director General Youth Services and Sports, while Madan Lal, Joint Director (J) was the Organising Secretary and Sunil Kumar, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Kathua was the Assistant Organising Secretary.
In Under-19 boys final, Kathua defeated Jammu by 32 runs. Batting first, Kathua scored 95 runs, losing 7 wickets in the process, while Jammu bundled out for 63 runs. Sahil Ali, Pranav Verma and Munish were the star performers for Kathua, while Tushar and Kartik performed well from Jammu.
In Under-19 girls final, Jammu defeated Samba by a huge margin of 84 runs. Batting first, Jammu scored 120 runs in 10 overs, losing 8 wickets in the process. Madhu top scored with 53 runs off 18 balls, studded with 8 fours and 2 sixes, while Pawandeep made 19 runs off 9 balls. Sheetal bagged 3 wickets, while Meera claimed 1 wicket.
In reply, Samba scored 36 runs in 10 overs by losing 7 wickets, thus lost the match by a big margin of 84 runs. Rudrakshi, Isha and Madhur claimed 2 wickets each.
The matches were officiated by Rajiv Mehta, Avinash Sharma, Sanjay Kumar, Sukh Ram Sharma, Tarsem Sharma, Rakesh Kumar and Kuldeep Singh.
